Overview

Web Design & Development Project Overview

KDM Constructors is a Saskatchewan general contractor and skilled-trades provider, and its website is the oldest one in this portfolio still doing its original job. It was commissioned in 2021 through Aurum Development rather than by KDM directly — a client of a client — which is a good test of whether a build survives without the person who ordered it staying in the room.

It has. The site runs on a straightforward pair of structures: services on one side, a portfolio of completed jobs on the other, tagged by project type so the work sorts itself. The emphasis throughout is photographic — in general contracting the argument gets made by pictures of finished sites, not by adjectives. Two years after launch KDM became part of the SECON Group, and this site is now one of five in that family, still on the shape it started with.

Ordered by somebody else entirely
The proposal went to a development company acting for the contractor. That arrangement usually produces a site nobody owns — built to a brief agreed by one party and inherited by another who was not in the meeting. Building it around what KDM would need to update themselves, rather than what the intermediary asked for, is why it outlived the arrangement.

In this trade the photographs are the copy
Nobody reads a general contractor's description of its own workmanship. They look at the finished concrete. The layout was built around job-site photography carrying the weight, with the writing doing the smaller job of saying what and where — which is also the version the client can actually keep current, because photos come off a phone.

Let the work sort itself
Every completed job is tagged by project type, so the portfolio filters itself into categories without anyone maintaining a category page. Add a job, tag it, and it appears in the right places. That one choice at build time is what decides whether a portfolio is still useful in year four.

Five years, no rebuild
Built in 2021, still running, still the shape it launched in — through an ownership change into a group that did not exist at the time. Websites do not usually get to be five years old and still correct. This one did because the structure was simple enough to stay true as the company around it changed.
