Overview

Web Design & Development Project Overview

Elance Steel designs, fabricates and installs structural steel out of Saskatoon, and the whole argument for hiring them is that all three of those happen under one roof rather than across three subcontracts. A website that lists “steel services” and moves on throws that argument away, so the structure was set up to make the three-part answer unavoidable: design, fabrication and installation are three separate pages, and every sector page names all three.

Above that sits a second axis. Four sectors — commercial, industrial and agricultural, public sector and government, and specialty projects — each carry their own page with the loads and site conditions that sector actually brings, a set of representative projects, and links across to the neighbouring sectors. Company history, safety and quality, and careers are separate pages under About, because on a bid the certifications page is not marketing, it is a document somebody is checking. Twenty-four named projects sit on one gallery page, from the Batoche viewing platforms to the Edmonton LRT.

What actually went into Elance Steel’s build, decision by decision — and the service behind each one.

Design, fabricate, install — say it three times

The pitch is that one company handles the drawing, the shop and the crew. Written as a sentence on a homepage, nobody believes it. Written as three service pages that each carry their own scope and their own examples, and named again on every sector page, it stops being a claim and starts being the shape of the site. Structure is the more convincing argument.

Six became four, and agriculture arrived

The plan going in listed six markets. Sorting the actual work into them produced four, and one of the four — agricultural — had not been on the list. Grain terminals and processing plants were simply a bigger share of the job book than the plan assumed. Better to find that out while writing the sitemap than after launch.

    Twenty-four jobs you can check

The Batoche viewing platforms. The Edmonton LRT. Removable seating at Credit Union Centre. Weyburn General Hospital. Crane rails, the Chinese Gate, a brewery addition. Two dozen named jobs, most of them buildings a Saskatchewan reader has stood inside. A fabricator's portfolio is not a mood board — it is a list of places that are still standing.

The certifications are the sales page

Company history. Safety and quality. Careers. Each was given its own URL beneath About instead of a heading two-thirds of the way down a single scroll. On institutional and public-sector work, somebody on the other side is verifying a safety record before anyone talks price. That page needs its own URL, its own title and its own place in search.
