Overview

Web Design & Development Project Overview

Cypress Sales Partnership is a manufacturers’ representative — the largest in Saskatchewan for HVAC equipment — which is a business model most people outside the trade have never had explained to them. Cypress does not manufacture and does not install. It represents the manufacturers, and an engineer specifying equipment for a building needs to know which lines Cypress carries before anything else can happen.

That makes the catalogue the whole site, not a section of it. Products and the suppliers behind them are searchable and filterable together, sorted across commercial and industrial, every product carrying its manufacturer’s mark, its applications and routes across to related equipment. A parallel projects structure records which products went into each job, so a specifier can move from a piece of equipment to a building it went into. The quote form records which page it was submitted from, which turns a general enquiry stream into a record of what people actually come here looking for.

Deep Dive

What actually went into Cypress Sales Partnership’s build, decision by decision — and the service behind each one.

A rep sells other people's names

The first question an engineer asks a manufacturers' representative is which lines they carry. The suppliers are therefore not a logo strip in a footer. They sit structured alongside the products, searchable together, because in this business the brand you represent is a substantial part of what you are selling and burying it costs you the enquiry.

Equipment, then the building it went into

Products link to the projects that used them and projects link back to their equipment. A specifier reading about a unit can see it installed; someone looking at a completed building can see what is in it. Two structures wired together do work that neither does alone, and it is the same pattern that carries every industrial site we build.

The form remembers where it was filled in

A quote request submitted from a specific product page arrives knowing which product page it came from. Over a year that turns the enquiry inbox into a ranked list of what the catalogue is actually being read for — which is better market research than most companies ever commission, produced as a side effect of asking for a quote.

Commercial and industrial are two catalogues

Equipment for an office tower and equipment for a processing plant overlap less than the shared word "HVAC" suggests, and the buyers do not read each other's material. Splitting the catalogue in two at the top level meant each half could be organised the way its own specifiers think, rather than compromising on a taxonomy that suits neither.
