WordPress Migration

Moving a website shouldn't feel like moving a house

Whether you're outgrowing a website builder, escaping a platform that fights you, or bringing an orphaned site somewhere it'll be looked after — the move happens beside your live site, not underneath it. Nothing goes dark, and nothing gets left behind that shouldn't be.

Moving Day

How a website moves without anyone noticing

The most important thing to know about migration is what doesn’t happen: downtime. Your current website keeps running, untouched, while its replacement takes shape in a private space on the web that only we can see. We harvest everything worth keeping from the old site — the writing, the images, the good data — and give it a proper home in a hand-built WordPress structure.

When the new site is ready and you’ve signed off, we flip a switch at the domain. Visitors who arrive one minute later land on the new site, and the old one gets thrown into a volcano, never to be seen again. That’s the whole ceremony. The suspense is optional; most clients find the anticlimax a relief.

What Survives

Your search standing moves with you

The quiet risk in any migration isn’t losing files — it’s losing standing. Every page on your old site has an address, and Google has opinions about all of them. Done carelessly, a move scatters those addresses and throws away years of accumulated search trust; you’d be amazed how many “website upgrades” quietly halve a business’s traffic. Done properly, every old address forwards permanently to its successor, Google follows the trail, and the standing you’ve earned arrives intact at the new place.

We map those forwards page by page before anything launches. It’s tedious, it’s invisible, and it’s the difference between moving and starting over.

Escape Stories

People do this all the time. Here's what it looks like.

Kathylynne at Fenton Travel rebranded her travel business and left behind the template website her host agency handed out for free — her word for it was “boring,” and what replaced it is unmistakably hers. Valley Zipline Adventures retired a website that had served nearly a decade and moved to a structure where every activity finally has its own page and booking is one obvious click. Neither business went offline for a minute along the way; both own everything on the other side — all the code, all the assets, all the everything.

Three Kinds of Move

Most migrations are one of these

Different starting points, same destination: a website you own outright, on infrastructure somebody watches.

  • 01

    Out of a website builder

Wix, Squarespace, and their cousins are fine starting points — until the business outgrows the rented walls. We move the content into WordPress, where the structure is yours to grow and no monthly platform decides what’s possible.

  • 02

Off a build that fights you

Some WordPress sites arrive buried in page-builder bloat and plugin sprawl, where every small change is an ordeal. We salvage the good data, rebuild the structure clean, and retire the labyrinth — WordPress to WordPress, night and day.

  • 03

    Onto watched infrastructure

Sometimes the site is sound and only the situation is wrong — a vanished builder, a neglected server, hosting nobody answers for. Case by case, after an honest look, we move sound sites onto our own servers and manage them like our own.

The standing arrangement

Every site here is under management

We designed these sites, we host them, and we keep them current — the same standing arrangement that comes with every build.

  • Kathylynne F. — Fenton Travel★★★★★

There are some things that are best left to the professionals – web design is one of them.

I recently hired Bryn with Becker Design & Media to create a new website after rebranding my travel business. My previous template website provided for free from my host agency, was just plain boring, with no specific call to action or focus. Bryn’s suggestions were spot on. He was a pleasure to work with, quick to respond and always explained why, when some of my design ideas were less than ideal in the online world. I appreciate his taking the time to educate me as well as providing a fresh professional looking website.

I’m excited that I can do simple revisions with the tutorial he provided after launch and he’s assured me he’s available for support, which is one of the main reason’s I hired him, based on another of his client’s reviews for his stellar ongoing support.

  • Patrick T. — Valley Zipline Adventures★★★★★

Where do I begin. When I decided to renew my business website after ten years, I vetted about a dozen different developers. Bryn stood out from them all and our consultation was extremely thorough and the quote included everything we discussed. I would hands down recommend Becker Design for your next website build. He was easy to work with, kept clear communication and updated me every step of the way. Our new website is exactly what I needed for my business and I don’t regret my decision with work with them whatsoever. Thanks for everything Bryn!

FAQ

Three moving-day questions

  • Will the website be down during the move?

No. The new site is built in parallel while the old one runs undisturbed; the switchover itself happens at the domain and takes effect in minutes. The only way most visitors ever learn a migration happened is that the website suddenly got better.

  • Can you move our email, domain, and the other attached things?

The domain comes with us as part of the move — and if you don’t currently control your own domain, which is alarmingly common, getting it back into your hands becomes step one. Email stays wherever it lives today; we don’t run mail servers, but we’ll happily coordinate with whoever does so nothing gets tangled in the switch.

  • What does a migration cost?

It depends entirely on what’s moving — a tidy builder site and a sprawling twenty-year WordPress install are different jobs. After a look at what you’ve got, you’ll get a proposal with the features, specifications, and costs laid out plainly. No meter running, no surprises mid-move.

Send the address and tell us what's pushing you to move — the platform, the provider, or just the feeling that the website's been on its own too long. We'll look at what you've got and map the route honestly, including anything that should stay behind.
