Tourism Saskatoon came to us wanting a lifestyle blog — somewhere to write about the city as a place people live rather than a place people visit for a weekend. What it needed first was a name, and Saskatooning was the one that stuck.
The build was the editorial half of a tourism organization’s job: a publishing platform for the writing, structured so the stories were the point and everything else got out of their way. That’s a different animal from a destination site. A listings directory answers where to stay; an editorial platform answers why anyone should care, and the second question is the one that eventually sells the first.
Here’s the part we like. Tourism Saskatoon has since rebuilt its main site on a dedicated destination-marketing platform, and Saskatooning came with it — it’s the name of the blog on Discover Saskatoon today, it’s the hashtag on their homepage, it’s their social handle, and there’s now a Saskatooning Passes program carrying it too. Websites get replaced. A good name outlives the thing it was built on, which is a decent argument for spending real time on the naming.
