Calgary Web Design

Becker Design is in Saskatoon, seven hours east of you across two provinces. Three businesses with Calgary addresses run on websites we built — one of them a Calgary company outright, not somebody’s branch office — and we have never once had a Calgary address ourselves.

Three addresses

Three Calgary addresses, one Saskatoon studio

Nardella Clinic is on 20th Avenue NW — a Calgary practice, head office and all, not a satellite of anything. Fastener Warehouse keeps its Calgary distribution branch on Aero Drive NE. Vern’s Pizza is on 28 Street SE. One clinic, one industrial supplier, one pizza chain — which is a fair summary of who actually hires us.

Seven hours, and why three Calgary companies didn’t care

Fig. 00 — The distance, measuredNot a map. On purpose.

Seven hours is far enough that we should stop calling it a drive and start calling it what it is: we work with Calgary clients remotely, and it works.

The kickoff is a video call. The written content lives in a shared document, and how quickly it fills in is the only real variable in your timeline. The build happens on a dev site — a private space on the web where the new website comes to life — and you get the link on day one, so you watch the thing take shape from your own office instead of waiting for a presentation. Feedback happens on the actual site, in real time, not in a PDF. When it’s finished we flip a switch at the domain and the old site is gone.

We’ll drive it when a project genuinely needs someone on site, and we’ve done it. But the honest version is that most of our Alberta work has never required it, and pretending otherwise would just be adding a road trip to your invoice.

After launch: hosting, updates, upkeep, backups, security, and support. Six things, one bill. Servers are indifferent to provincial boundaries.

The straight answer

Calgary has more web designers than Saskatchewan has people who need one

That’s not quite true, but it’s close enough that the question deserves an answer: why hire a Saskatoon studio when your own city is full of them?

Two honest reasons, and neither is price. First, when you hire Becker Design you get Bryn — not an account manager, not a rotating pod, not a junior who inherited your file when somebody left. Second, we’re still working with essentially everyone we’ve ever built for, which is a harder thing to claim in a market where agencies churn.

And the reason not to: if you need people in the room regularly — a brand team you can pull into a boardroom, seasonal photo shoots, weekly stand-ups — Calgary has excellent shops for that and we’d be a poor substitute. We’d tell you so on the first call.

The wider ledger

Mostly Saskatchewan, regularly not

14 years and hundreds of builds. Home is Saskatoon; the work has gone to Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Kelowna, Vancouver, Victoria, Toronto and Montreal. A few below.

Who this tends to be

The industries we’ve actually done this for

Three of these have a Calgary address behind them and we say which. The rest are honest about not having one. Six cards, not fifteen.

  • 01CALGARY HQ — 20 AVE NW

Naturopaths and wellness clinics — including one on 20th Ave NW

Nardella Clinic is a Calgary practice we built for, head office and all. Clinic sites live on a narrow job: explain the treatments plainly, introduce the practitioners properly, and get booking out of the way. More on naturopath websites.

  • 02CALGARY BRANCH — AERO DR NE

Construction companies — including the branch on Aero Drive

Fastener Warehouse has spent thirty-odd years making sure nobody’s production line goes down, and its Calgary distribution branch is on Aero Drive NE. We built the site and we’ve hosted it since. More on construction websites.

  • 03CALGARY — 28 STREET SE

Restaurants — including the one on 28th

Vern’s Pizza, home of the Original Thick, on 28 Street SE. The site’s whole job is getting a hungry person to the ordering page without a detour. More on restaurant websites.

    Health care and clinics

Beyond Nardella, our health work is Prairie Diagnostic Services out of the U of S, AVI Health on the coast and the Canadian Retina Society nationally — a patient and a referring clinician both needing to find their own thing. More on health care websites.

  • 05

    Professional services

OptimaHR, Your Voice Consulting, ResearchFDI. In a city this crowded the website problem is sharper than usual: a stranger has to work out what you actually sell before they open another tab. More on professional services.

    Mining and heavy industry

The Northern Strands companies, Fortis, SECON — all Saskatchewan-side. If you’re running heavy industry out of Calgary, this is how we structure it.

In their words

Two of the three, on the record

  • Ed T. — Nardella Clinic★★★★★

Bryn is incredibly knowledgeable and very responsive to all our website needs. We highly recommend Becker.

  • Brad G. — Fastener Warehouse★★★★★

Becker did a fantastic job, we could not be happier! Bryn’s step by step approach and attention to detail is and was very much so appreciated. The continued support and professional guidance reassures our decision. We have had many remarks from our customers that our new webpage is very professional, easy to navigate and very informative….. Thank you Becker & Bryn 11/10!

Both were sitting on the portfolio already — nobody collected them for this page. More of them over here.
What usually prompts it

Four reasons a Calgary business calls somebody in Saskatoon

These are the ones we hear from out-of-province clients specifically. They’re not the same four a local shop would list.

  • 01

    You’ve been handed off twice

The person who pitched you left, then their replacement left. Nobody in the building remembers why the site was built the way it was. When you hire us, the person you talk to is the person who does the work, and he doesn’t get reassigned.

  • 02

The quotes came back wildly apart

Same brief, three agencies, three numbers with a five-figure spread and no way to tell what the difference buys. We’d rather show you the spec line by line than win on a number.

  • 03

It’s built on something you can’t get out of

Proprietary platforms and page builders that hold your content hostage. Everything we build is WordPress and open source — any designer anywhere can pick it up. You’re never trapped.

  • 04

    Nobody is actually watching it

The site launched, the agency moved on, and the last update was two years ago. That’s the part we treat as the actual job, not the afterthought.

Asked and answered

Questions we actually get asked

The Alberta version of the list — the first two come up on every single call.

  • Why would we hire someone in Saskatoon?

Fair question, and we’ve answered it above rather than bury it. Short version: you get one person who does the actual work and doesn’t get reassigned, and a studio that’s still working with just about everyone it has built for. If you need bodies in a boardroom, hire in Calgary.

  • Have you built anything in Calgary?

Three: Nardella Clinic on 20th Avenue NW, Fastener Warehouse’s branch on Aero Drive NE, and Vern’s on 28 Street SE. Nardella is a Calgary company outright, which is the one that matters most.

  • Do you ever come out here?

When a project genuinely needs it. Most of our Alberta work hasn’t, and we’d rather say that than pad an estimate with travel you don’t need.

  • How long does it take?

About three months from deposit to launch. The biggest variable isn’t us — it’s how fast the written content comes together.

  • What happens after it launches?

We keep it. Hosting, updates, upkeep, backups, security, and support — that’s Enhanced Ongoing Services, and it’s how every site we build is looked after.

05 — FIVE QUESTIONS. THE FIRST ONE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT REALLY MATTERS.
