Web Design & Development Project Overview

51 Dental is on 51st Street in the north end of Saskatoon, which is the kind of name that saves everybody a lot of explaining. It was the first of three clinic websites we built for the same owner, and the one where the decisions got made — how a dental service should be structured as a page, what a clinic’s site actually needs, and what could be reused next time without the next clinic looking like a copy.

Six services each get their own page — general dentistry, exams and cleaning, emergency care, children’s dentistry, extractions and wisdom teeth, implants and bridges — named the way a patient would describe the problem rather than the way a practice files it. Booking sits in the main navigation, because the moment somebody decides to call a dentist is not a moment to make them go looking.

Deep Dive

What actually went into 51 Dental’s build, decision by decision — and the service behind each one.

Built once, then used twice more

This was the first of three clinic sites for the same owner, and it carried the cost of working everything out — how services are structured, what a dental practice's site actually needs, what a patient is trying to do when they arrive. Acadia and Midtown were built on the system that came out of it, which is why the second and third clinics cost a fraction of the first.

Named the way patients describe the problem

Nobody searches for "restorative dentistry." They search for a chipped tooth the night it happens, or wisdom teeth, or whether the kids can be seen somewhere that won't frighten them. Six services, six pages, each titled the way the person with the problem would say it out loud — which is a content decision more than a technical one, and it does most of the work.

    The street is the brand

A clinic named after the street it sits on has handed its website a gift, and the site takes it — the location is stated at the top rather than buried in a footer. For a neighbourhood practice in the north end, being unmistakably here matters more than anything else a homepage could say, and it answers the first question a new patient has anyway.

    Booking, where the decision happens

Deciding to see a dentist rarely happens on a contact page. It happens halfway down a page about a sore tooth, often at an hour when nobody is going to answer the phone, and usually on a phone held in one hand. Book Appointment rides along in the nav at every screen size, so the decision never has to outlive the hunt for a button.
