Overview

Web Design & Development Project Overview

Acadia Dental Clinic sits in The Centre at Circle and 8th, and shares its dentists with Midtown Dental downtown — the same practitioners, two ends of the city, so a patient can be seen wherever suits them that week. The website’s first job is making that legible, because a clinic with a second location has to explain the relationship without seeming like a franchise.

Its second job is stranger: the site lives at centremalldentists.com while the clinic is called Acadia Dental. People know the mall, and the domain was earned before the branding settled, so both names have to work — the one people search and the one on the door. Nine services are written up separately — checkups and cleanings, implants, root canals, esthetics, children’s dentistry and the rest.

Deep Dive

What actually went into Acadia Dental Clinic’s build, decision by decision — and the service behind each one.

The same dentists, at the other end of the city

Acadia and Midtown are staffed by the same dentists in two locations, which is genuinely useful to a patient and easy to get wrong on a website. Say too little and the two clinics look like competitors; say too much and it reads as a chain. The site states the relationship plainly, once, where a returning patient will see it, and otherwise gets on with being this clinic's site.

    A domain that isn't the clinic's name

The clinic is Acadia Dental. The website is centremalldentists.com. That mismatch is usually a problem to be fixed, except here the mall is exactly how people describe the place — "the dentist at Circle and Eighth" — and the domain has years of history behind it. So the site carries both names rather than picking one, and keeps the search equity the domain has already earned.

Nine services, written for this clinic

Check-ups, cleanings, Invisalign, implants and tooth replacement, root canals and fillings, esthetics, children's dentistry, extractions, emergencies. The same shape as the sister clinic's list and deliberately not the same words, because two clinics with identical pages compete with each other in search results — and the one that loses is whichever the algorithm decides is the copy.

The second clinic on a system built for the first

The underlying build came from 51 Dental, which is why this site cost what it did and why it works the way it does. The saving is real and worth being plain about — but a shared foundation is only a saving if the content on top of it is actually different, which is where the work went instead.
