Two historic Vancouver buildings have a hotel threaded through them, and it’s called the Victorian — high ceilings, heavy old construction, and brick the owners have been uncovering and putting back on show, a room at a time. The building was the brief. Anything we designed had to sit next to that brick without competing with it.
So the design took the hotel’s own lines — the proportions of the rooms, the fixtures going in during the renovation, the weight of the original construction — and set them against a modern layer that didn’t fight them. Photography carried most of it, because a heritage property sells on the way it looks in person and the website’s whole job was to get close to that. A guest deciding between the Victorian and a glass tower on the waterfront is choosing a different kind of night, and the site’s job was to make that choice legible fast.
