Simple. Local. Delicious. Calories has run on that line on Broadway for a long time, and it’s a fair description of a place that is quietly three businesses at once — a dining room, a dessert counter with a following of its own, and a room that shows art and puts on live music. The site has to hold all three without pretending they’re the same thing.
Menus come first and split by kind, with the wine list broken out the way the restaurant actually presents it — by the glass, then the cellar, then whites and reds. Live @ Calories carries the exhibitions and the performances, which is what makes it Calories rather than a good bistro. Catering and private events get their own route, because the person organising an event is making a much bigger decision than the person booking dinner, and needs completely different information to make it. Ordering hands off to the store on its own subdomain, which keeps a food catalogue of a couple of hundred items from swallowing the restaurant’s own site.
The photography does the rest. For a restaurant known as much for its dessert case as its dinner, that’s not decoration — it’s the menu.
