Digital Strategy

Something about your website isn’t working. Let’s find out what.

Maybe it’s slow. Maybe nobody can find it on Google. Maybe the company that built it stopped answering emails, or you’re staring at a rebuild quote and can’t tell if it’s fair. Digital strategy is the consulting side of Becker Design: we take a proper look under the hood, and you get our honest read — what’s fine, what’s broken, and what we’d do about it, in that order.

The engagement

What a strategy engagement actually looks like

We go through your website the way a home inspector goes through a house — unhurried, and into corners you didn’t know it had.

  • 01

How the site is structured, and whether that structure matches how your customers search.

  • 02

How fast pages load, and what exactly is slowing them down — we’ve audited sites whose homepages took nearly 10,000 lines of code to render what a few hundred could handle.

  • 03

Whether there’s anything on the page a customer would type into a search bar.

  • 04

Where you stand on Google, and why.

  • 05

Who holds the keys — the domain, the hosting account, the backups.

  • 06

And how much technical debt is quietly piling up, because five years of quick fixes has a way of becoming the most expensive thing about a website.

Part of every look is the data. Secretly, behind the scenes, every website is just a spreadsheet — a spreadsheet dressed up to look good. If yours is organized, adding a product or a staff bio takes minutes and Google can read all of it. If it’s a junk drawer, every small change costs money. We can tell which one you have pretty quickly.

What you walk away with is written down, in plain English: what’s fine, what needs attention, what it would cost you to ignore, and the order we’d fix things in. Where nerd terminology is unavoidable, it comes with a translation.

Full disclosure

The part where we tell you about our bias

We sell websites. So when a strategy engagement ends with “this one’s due for a rebuild,” you’d be right to notice we have skin in the game — we’re incentivized to reach exactly that conclusion. We reach it anyway when it’s true, and we say so with the reasoning attached. When it isn’t true, you hear that instead. Some engagements end with “your website is fine — here are three small things worth doing.”

That conclusion doesn’t sell us a website. You get it anyway.

While we’re being upfront: we don’t promise rankings. Nobody honestly can — Google doesn’t publish the rules, and anyone guaranteeing you the top spot is selling something other than SEO. What we promise is narrower and more useful: an accurate picture of where you stand, and a plan that points the right direction. The climb takes time, and we’d rather tell you that on day one than surprise you in month six.

Who books these

Two kinds of people book these

Reader 01 — already has a website

The first already has a website, and a nagging feeling about it. A lot of our work is second websites — the first one got banged out from a template years ago, or was left to fend for itself, and now it’s costing customers instead of winning them. For the record: getting something up was the right call at the time. Websites just don’t stay solved. A strategy engagement tells you whether yours needs a tune-up, a renovation, or a fresh start — before you commit money to any of them.

Reader 02 — doesn’t have one yet

The second doesn’t have a website yet, or is about to replace one, and mostly has questions. Every company they call quotes a different number for a different thing, and comparing the quotes feels like comparing a car to a boat. An assessment sorts that out: what your business needs, what it can skip, and what a sensible build looks like at your size. Then you can shop with a straight face — with us or with anyone.

While you decide

The shop behind the second opinion

Strategy advice is only as good as the shop it comes from. Ours is a working portfolio — every site in it live and clickable. Look around, then tell us what’s going on with yours.

About AI, plainly

We’re not going to tell you AI will transform your business. We don’t know that, and neither does anyone selling it that way. What we know is what we’ve tested in our own shop, where AI has earned exactly the jobs it’s good at — drafting and shaping written content that a human reviews before anything ships — and none of the jobs it isn’t. That’s the approach we bring to your business: figure out where a tool helps, put a person in charge of it, and skip the rest. If the honest answer for you is “not much yet,” that’s the answer you’ll get — and the engagement will have been cheap insurance against an expensive enthusiasm.

Strategy work you can check

WKSkinClinic hired us for the SEO audit first: every service page restructured and rewritten around what patients search for, then the plan implemented instead of left in a drawer. Northern Strands ran a digital readiness assessment alongside their rebuild — the searchable training calendar and course infrastructure were planned there, not bolted on later. And the ongoing performance and security audits behind the Pink Wig Foundation are part of why a donation platform handling sensitive information stays fast and stays locked. Different engagements, same habit: look first, then build.

Where this can lead

When the answer is a new website

Sometimes it is. A site carrying years of technical debt can cost more to patch than to replace, and when that’s the math, we show you the math. One honest line about that conclusion: yes, we’re the ones who’d build it — which is exactly why every strategy report is written to stand on its own. Take it to any web company you like; it will still be true. So far, people have mostly brought it back to us.

And however an engagement ends, it doesn’t have to end. Most clients keep us on as the standing answer to “who do we ask about website things?” — a question here, a tune-up there. The full looked-after arrangement lives under Enhanced Ongoing Services, if you want the whole picture.

The whole ask

Tell us what’s going on with your website

That’s the whole ask. Describe the situation — the slow pages, the missing customers, the quote you’re not sure about, the AI pitch you got at a conference. We’ll take a look and tell you what we’d do, plainly. If that turns into an engagement, you’ll get a proposal that spells out the features, specs, and associated costs — and nothing is set in stone. If it doesn’t, you’re out one email.
