Becker Design is in Saskatoon, seventeen hours and two mountain ranges east of you. Two of our builds have Vancouver on them — a heritage hotel downtown and a roofing group that calls its Lower Mainland shop the Vancouver office — and we have never pretended to be a coastal agency.
Two, and we’ll be precise about both
Victorian Hotel Vancouver is a heritage hotel downtown — we built the site that takes its bookings. Thorpe runs a Lower Mainland operation out of 96 Avenue that the company itself lists as its Vancouver office, though the building is technically in Surrey; we built the site that says so. Two is a small number and the second one comes with an asterisk. We’d rather hand you the asterisk than round up.

Nobody is driving this. Our BC work is remote work, and the only honest thing to do is describe it accurately rather than dress it up as flexibility.
Kickoff is a video call. The written content lives in a shared document, and how fast it fills in decides your launch date — that’s true from three blocks away and it’s true from seventeen hours. The build happens on a dev site, a private space on the web where the new website comes to life, and you have the link from day one, so you’re reviewing the actual site in your own browser rather than a picture of it. When it’s finished we flip a switch at the domain.
What you don’t get is anybody in the room. No boardroom sessions, no photographer we can send over on a Tuesday. If the project needs photography, you hire a local shooter and we direct it. That’s a real limitation and it belongs on this page, not in a footnote after you’ve signed.
The part that runs forever — hosting, updates, upkeep, backups, security, and support — works identically at any distance. Six things, one bill.
Vancouver is the strongest case for hiring locally on this whole site
It genuinely is. You have one of the deepest design markets in the country, an hour of your time gets you into a room with any of them, and if what you want is a studio you can visit, you should use one. We’d say that on the first call and we’d mean it.
The case for us is narrow and specific. When you hire Becker Design you get Bryn — the same person for the strategy call, the build, and the email you send three years later about a broken link. No handoffs, no pod, no junior inheriting your file. We’re still working with essentially everyone we’ve ever built for. If that’s worth more to you than proximity, the distance genuinely doesn’t matter. If it isn’t, hire someone on Main Street and we’ll wish you well.

One has a Lower Mainland address behind it. The rest don’t, and say so. This is the shortest industry grid on the site, which is the honest reflection of how much work we’ve done out here.

Travel and tourism

Four reasons somebody calls us from the coast

The agency was too big for you
You were the smallest client on the roster and it showed — slow replies, junior staff, a strategy deck you didn’t ask for. Smaller shops answer faster, and there is nobody here to hand you off to.

You’re locked into a platform
Proprietary builders and hosting you can’t leave. Everything we build is WordPress and open source: all the code, all the assets, all the everything, and any designer in the world can pick it up.

Multiple companies, one mess
Three brands, three sites, no shared structure and no plan. That’s most of what we did for Thorpe, and it’s a planning problem before it’s a build.

Why on earth would we hire someone in Saskatoon?
Honestly, a lot of the time you shouldn’t — Vancouver has excellent studios and you can walk into them. The reason people do it anyway is that you get one person for the whole life of the site, not a rotating team, and we’re still looking after builds we launched years ago. If proximity matters more than that, hire local.
Have you built anything in Vancouver?
Two, and we’ll be precise: the Victorian Hotel downtown, and Thorpe’s Lower Mainland operation — which Thorpe calls its Vancouver office although the building is in Surrey. That’s the accurate version.
Would you ever come out here?
Not routinely, and we won’t pretend otherwise. If a build needs photography we direct a local shooter rather than fly. Everything else genuinely doesn’t need a body in the room.
Are you in Pacific time?
No — Saskatchewan doesn’t change its clocks, so we’re an hour ahead of you most of the year and two hours ahead in the winter. In practice it means we’re at our desks before you are, which nobody has ever complained about.
What happens after it launches?
We keep it. Hosting, updates, upkeep, backups, security, and support — that’s Enhanced Ongoing Services, and it’s how every site we build is looked after.
