Overview

Web Design & Development Project Overview

The Northern Strands Group of Companies is the parent of four Saskatchewan and Alberta operations that mostly sell to the same industries and occasionally to each other — Northern Strands for rope, rigging and fall protection, Certified Sales & Rentals for equipment, Fortis for mining engineering and manufacturing, and NS Modular for fabrication and field services out of Nisku. The group site’s job is narrow and easy to get wrong: send people to the right company quickly, and be the front door for anyone who wants to work there.

So it is deliberately the smallest site in the family. Each company gets a clear route out to its own full site, careers sits in the top-level navigation rather than buried under About, and a news section carries the announcements that belong to the group rather than to any one operation. It shares a design language with the other sites we run for NSGC, so moving between them feels like moving around one organisation instead of landing on somebody else’s website.

Deep Dive

What actually went into Northern Strands Group’s build, decision by decision — and the service behind each one.

The umbrella site's only real job

A parent-company site earns its keep by getting out of the way. Someone arriving here wants one of four things — rope and rigging, equipment, engineering, or fabrication — and the fastest useful outcome is landing on the right company's own site within a click or two. So this one is built thin on purpose: four clear routes out, and nothing competing with them for attention.

    Careers, at the group level

People apply to a group, not to a subsidiary they've never heard of. Careers is a main-menu item here rather than being repeated four times across four sites, which means one place to post an opening and one place a candidate has to check. The group posts and updates its own listings without needing anything from us.

One design language across the family

Building each company a site of its own risks four strangers wearing the same logo. The brief was a shared design language and easy movement between sites, so a visitor crossing from equipment to engineering knows they haven't left. It also means work compounds: a fix or an improvement made once can be carried across the family rather than rebuilt four more times.

    Group news, company news

Not every announcement belongs to a subsidiary. Acquisitions, group appointments, and anything spanning more than one company have a home here instead of being awkwardly posted on whichever site seemed closest. It keeps the operating companies' news sections about their own work, which is what the people reading them came for.
